Testimonials

We liked our home before working with MKD, but we knew that there was room for improvement. After working with MKD, we LOVE our home, and it really feels like "ours" after redoing our kitchen and on-suite bathroom. It added more storage for us, makes the house look more modern and comfy, and even years later, we love the results.

We had a very tight deadline for our project due to the impending birth of our first child, and we felt completely overwhelmed about if we should even do the project now or wait until we had settled into parenthood and got back to a "normal routine" with our child. That being said, we also knew that if we didn't do it now, we had no idea when we'd have a chance to do it again. We reached out to Melissa to discuss how we were feeling overwhelmed, unsure, and all the other emotions that come with uncertainty. She was extremely supportive, and upon listening to us, helped us connect with our contractor for a simple conversation to help us understand the timelines we were realistically expecting, and answer all outstanding questions we had. It was a simple act that helped reaffirm our decision, and we pulled the trigger after that call. It made us feel heard, respected, and most importantly, cared for.

1000%! Every interaction with Melissa and the MKD staff was a delight, and they always were willing to answer our questions with a smile!

It probably sounds strange to say, because my husband and I are well into adulthood, but after working with Melissa we feel like we live in a home that belongs to grown-ups. Before working with Melissa, our living room decor could best be described as "elevated college dorm" or maybe "accidental bohemian." With a few small changes, Melissa helped us pull the room together so it looks more open, more purposefully decorated, more whimsical (which we love!), and 100% "us."

Even though our budget was probably much smaller than her usual clients', Melissa was totally invested in our project, and she was just as excited as we were with the final result. It was a pleasure to share the joy over our beautifully decorated living room with her!

As a people pleaser, my inclination was to like everything Melissa showed me, but she caught onto that right away and made sure I was choosing items that were right for our home, not because she recommended them, but because my husband and I truly loved them.

Melissa and her staff were extremely professional, always courteous, and 100% focused on getting us the results we wanted at a price we could afford. I recommend MKD without reservation and hope to work with them again in the future.

Our home feels like our own instead of someone else’s. We’ve added our own personal touch that is unique to us and it’s so nice to be in the environment you created for yourself.

Working with MKD helped us figure out what our style was. Before buying this home, we had both solely rented which was never very conducive to any sort of personalized design. When we bought our home we knew there were things about it we wanted to change and working with MKD helped us hone our style into our home.

We both came in without much of a sense of what we wanted. We just knew what we liked or didn’t like. It was really fun to go through the visceral visuals discovery process and have Melissa guide us to our own design aesthetic. It was also a joy to have Melissa and her team always narrow down choices to a couple options for us to choose from. Having the options whittled down to a few helped take out a lot of the anxiety of any large redesign because we weren’t overwhelmed with options.

Having Melissa by our side during the construction phase of the projects was where I felt most supported during the most stressful point of the project. It was great to do weekly check-ins with her and the contractor to make sure we were on track and having her advocate on our behalf to make sure everything was executed to perfection by the contractor.

One of the things I’ve always appreciated about Melissa is her philosophy that a home is a reflection of oneself—that what we choose to surround ourselves with deeply influences how we feel in our daily lives. She really understands the importance of creating an environment that feels true to who you are, that feels like you, and that supports a sense of peace, rest, and belonging. When your home feels aligned in that way, it can genuinely transform how you experience your day-to-day life.

I worked with MKD to help me finish the seating area in our kitchen space. I’d been struggling to find those final touches—the soft furnishings and details that would really complete the room. It felt a little bit beyond me, and I knew I could really benefit from her guidance and insight.

Now, we absolutely love this area. We spend so much time sitting in our kitchen—it’s beautiful, functional, and comfortable. It feels so inviting that we actually want to be there. Before, it was just a drab, unfinished room with a table in the wrong place, and we never used it. Now we eat there, talk there, and even work from home there. It’s become one of our favorite spots in the house because it brings us so much happiness and joy.

I had a clear vision for this space, and I’m someone who usually knows what she likes—but I don’t always know where to find it. When it came to the soft furnishings, that felt really beyond me. We had already invested so much in building the banquette seating, adding paneling, and creating a new bar area, and I wanted to get the finishing touches just right. Melissa was that final, editing eye that helped my vision truly come to life.

One of the challenges was falling in love with a fabric that was more than I wanted to spend per yard, and this was BEFORE I had decided to work with MKD. Melissa was so patient and supportive—she helped me see that I was genuinely in love with it and that honoring that feeling mattered. Her honesty and intuition saved me so much time and energy, and I appreciated how she balanced practicality with artistry.

I also tend to cast a wide net when I’m making design choices—I like to see everything before I commit. So I was blown away when Melissa came over with just a small, curated selection of fabrics, and I loved every single one of them. That moment showed me how deeply she listens and how precisely she can tune into a client’s taste.

Melissa has a remarkable eye for editing and refinement. She knows how to sort through what’s out there and select the most beautiful, resonant pieces that align with your home’s feeling and your personal style. It was such a pleasure working with Melissa and her team. I can’t recommend Melissa Kite Designs more highly—I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again and would happily refer Melissa to any friends or family members looking for an interior designer.

Working with Melissa Kite was an absolute dream from start to finish. She designed our home from the ground up and went above and beyond in every possible way.  There were so many decisions to make—it was overwhelming—but putting everything in Melissa’s capable hands was such a relief.
Our home is the most beautiful and I'm happy to say, unique on the block. We didn't want a cookie cutter home. We wanted something that reflected our artistic sensibility but still maintain a timeless aesthetic. Seriously, the home is spectacular.

Melissa’s creativity and professionalism turned what could have been a stressful process into an enjoyable one. Our home is everything we hoped it would be—and more. I cannot recommend Melissa Kite Design highly enough.

Melissa is a great partner for an architect to work with and we have worked together for almost a decade. She is respectful of the vision that the building typology carries and is very collaborative to allow us to bring the best design for each of our clients. We tend to do a design meeting together to discuss our thoughts as a team and then work in tandem to develop the architectural and interiors elements.

MKD’s design approach really digs in deep with the client in a way that we don’t tend to in terms of their design philosophy and vision through her Visceral Visuals. This unique process allows the clients to share in a free way and she is able to really get to the bottom of what is behind their aesthetic likes and dislikes. This process brings out the client’s own aesthetic and elevates it.

Melissa has a really good eye for things and she works with clients of all levels and she commits to every step of the project from start to finish. Each time, the clients are pleased because of her ability to bring the client’s personal style into the finished product.

We've had the pleasure of working with Melissa twice now, and both experiences were amazing. Our most recent renovation spanned 8 months — and not once did we feel stressed or in the dark. She was communicative, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in bringing our vision to life.

She didn't just deliver a beautiful space... she delivered *our* space. Every choice felt intentional and personal. When unexpected challenges came up (as they always do in renovations), she handled them with grace and kept everything on track.

We love what our home has become, and we're so appreciative for Melissa for helping us survive the process in one piece. I'm not sure we'll be doing any more renovations on our home, but if we do, MKD will be our first call.
