Design is a language of intent to actualization. Manifestation.
Since 2013, my design business has focused on the intent of working with makers, vendors, collaborators and our team for the sole purpose of creating homes that reflect the true nature of our clients.
The core principle of my interior design practice is that the HOME reflects the SELF.
HOWEVER, many of our clients and collaborators are not connected to themselves in an authentic way — mostly due to the pressured realities of over stimulation and time.
What I have discovered is the yearning to be a helper in the space of connection and belonging is more my true calling and the work I want to do.
At MKD we marry inner to outer design, generating a language of belonging and shared values; a place to call home, in all its forms.
I have been designing interiors for seventeen years, and opened Melissa Kite Designs in late 2012.
I have a BA in Art History from The University of Texas at Austin and an Associate Degree in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design, The New School, New York. In my pre-college years, I was a ballerina. At the age of 15, I moved to Houston to study with The Houston Ballet on scholarship.
I have found that my focused ballet training continues to inform my eye as to line and movement in space, and ultimately is my foundation as an interior designer. As well, that foundation instilled in me a deep appreciation for classical form, which both contemporary and antiquity curiosities magnify.
I find all are elements of creating an excellent home-refinement experience.
